Should i change my meta tags and keywords???
« on: May 24, 2009, 11:54:28 PM »
Hi all,
I wanted to know if i should change my meta tags and keywords for each individual page? The way I have it now, I have the same meta tags and keywords for all my pages.

All your META tags are basically ignored by the major search engines... remove your META keywords and description. Make sure your title tag for each page is unique and contains the primary keyword(s) for that page.

You can leave the keywords, but they are ignored. If you remove the Meta description,  Google will select a snippet of relevant text from your content... In this way you/Google will be presenting a description for you primary keywords and any other longtail keywords... It is normally more effective. The only exception is if you lack sufficient content on the page. If so, provide a description.

To answer the question of should your Title tag be different on each page the answer is yes... tweak them slightly to give Google a better idea of what each page is about... Also if you choose to continue using META description and META keywords, make sure those are unique for each page... IF you utilize Google webmaster tools they actually show you where you have duplicate META tags making it fairly certain that Google likes separate tags not shared ac cross the whole site.
