Link building resources.
« on: September 15, 2009, 04:26:51 AM »
After reading a few discussions around here lately and learning a little bit more about link building and what to look for to qualify a quality backlink, I was curious to know what others are using to determine this. Are there any tools or websites that do this for you? Are there specific places to look at the linking website that are quick giveaways?

Just a few things I've taken from recent discussions:
- looking at the sites linking to the site you are trying obtain a link from (still seeking a deeper explanation)
- domain age of the site
- topical relevance
- verifying the page you are getting a link on is not nofollowed
- geographical relevance

Try linkdiagnosis d0t c0M - Competitors with more inbound links with higher PageRank tend to perform better.

- domain age of the site

Domain age doesn't matter too much. You can still have a 1 year old domain kicking the crap out of a 10 year old domain competing in the same market.

- topical relevance

That's self explanitory.

- verifying the page you are getting a link on is not nofollowed

Then you don't get PageRank value transferred. Try SEOQuake.

- geographical relevance

Should only matter by country if you are only geo targeting a country. If you are geo targeting my city or state, the server should be in the same country.

Domain age does play a certain factor. Domains that have been around longer tend to have a little more value, as opposed to quick SPAM type sites which pop up and generate a lot of links in a short amount of time. I just read an article about this.
